How to Make Iced Coffee with French Press

The classic French press has become an incredibly versatile kitchen tool, and one of our favorite ways to use it is to make iced coffee. Whether you need a little pick-me-up in the morning, or a refreshing afternoon beverage, iced coffee from a French press is always a great option. Here’s how to make it:

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

You will need:

  • A French Press
  • Coffee Grounds
  • Cold Water
  • Milk and/or Cream (optional)
  • Sugar (optional)
  • Ice Cubes

Step 2: Preparing the Coffee

  • Put coarsely ground coffee in the French press. A ratio of 16 grams of coffee to 300 milliliters of water is generally accepted as a good starting point.
  • Pour cold water on top of the grounds. Make sure all of the grounds are saturated with water.
  • Stir the grounds and let sit for 2 minutes.

Step 3: Plunging and Adding Ice

  • Place the plunger on top of the French press, without pressing down.
  • Add ice cubes to your cup and pour in the coffee mixture.
  • Add milk and/or cream, as desired.
  • Add sugar, as desired.
  • Stir and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

  • Make sure to use coarsely ground coffee. If the grind is too fine, the brewed coffee can be bitter.
  • Brewed coffee will stay hot for several minutes, so if you prefer iced coffee, let it cool before adding the ice cubes.
  • If you plan to make multiple cups of iced coffee, add more ice to the cup(s) so that the coffee does not become too diluted.

Making iced coffee with the French press is quick, easy, and delicious. Just make sure to use coarsely ground coffee and let the brew cool before adding the ice. With a few simple steps, you’ll have refreshing iced coffee in no time.
